Morning y'all. Doing much better, as long as I move s.....l....o.....w......ly. There's an unexpected side effect to my pneumonia though. Ever know someone to go in the hospital with a ruptured appendix, or some virus, and come out 30, 40 lbs lighter? I know it's not healthy, but you get that sort of Betty Grable in Dark Horse (she dies of brain cancer) waifish sort of look, you know? I figured that that would be one of the few good effects to come from this, but oh, the shock to my van...

Okay, this time I've got a real excuse for not posting. Went for an easy six mile run last tuesday night, next day woke with a fever and nausea. By wednesday night, I had run a hundred and three (and i run a degree and change low normally), and was ready to join the zombie deer in their quest for brains.......you know, kind of like Dark Ash. From there it was like those joke tees about tequilla shots......One day, two days, three days........floor. Help, I've fallen and I can't get up. ...

Top ten things to tell the cadre I'm going to do when I get out. 10. I don't know. What does it matter, as long as I'm not still in the Army? (Why not start with the truth? They'll never believe it anyways....) 9. Open a crystal meth lab....It's a growth industry at Ft. Hood. 8. I never wanted to be a soldier, rabbiting on, killing people and kicking in doors all day........I wanted to be.........a Lumberjack!!! 7. Be a stay at home mom and live off of my wife's paycheck (what's i...

Told you so. And well, if you're wondering why I'm posting this under humor, I think my life's a joke. Just a quick update, but I swear by the zombie deer that roam my neighborhood, I will write again soon. In the meantime, I've been smelting away like a sweaty toothed madman (and who knows that quote i dare ya? (no googling, that's cheating)), aluminium everywhere, it's wild! Even began casting. I'd post more pictures that don't work, but I'm really really lazy. Additionaly, the pres...

As promised, here's some photos of my first firing of the furnace. I even melted down some aluminum using an old mug for a crucible.......the mug didn't survive, but it was a nice test of whether or not this thing would work. Here's a picture of my popcorn tin furnace when I first fired it up. It's using charcoal for fuel, and yes, that's a hairdryer on the end as a blower for fast oxidation (turning it into a damned blast furnace once I'd fired it slow to make sure the walls wouldn't blow...

I am possibly on the path to freedom. As a result of general army fuckery (pardon the pun), although originally supposed to last until November, the stop loss I am currently under has been cancelled with the return of our brigade. Whoops. I've been told that they don't know, it's going to be fixed, etc., but it hasn't. And no one my cadre has told me definitively, that the Army isn't going to stop paying me as of Apr. 24. (which my pay statement has) So, I'm doing what any good korean l...

The army has relented for a couple of days, and granted us a mmmm......weekdayend? Anyways, I took a break from working on my engine, and played with concrete all weeke........I mean monday and tuesday. Including the furnace for my foundry. I started small. Merely poured a new mailbox post (2.5 parts sand, 2.5 parts gravel from the shitty grading job the did in front of my house, take that Copperas Cove!!!!, 1 part portland cement, and just a leeetle bit of water.) That was fun, so I finis...

Ow. YAY!!!!!! Ow. YAY!!!! Ow. Ow. Ow. That pretty much sums up the Marathon experience so far. After 7 months of training, I (and 12,000 like minded idiots) finally ran the Austin Freescale Marathon this weekend. (7500 officially in the full marathon, 4000 in the half) It was awesome. Amazing. Incredible. Insert cliche here. Painful. (but only after mile 19 or so.) That's right Joe Users, you will be amazed to know that I came in 2681st. I think. Yes. I'm certainly imp...

Herro....hans brix. I've recently begun (or tried to begin anyways) yet another hobby. I've gone through many since joining the army, and even retained some. Despite frequent lack of time, past interests include (but are not restricted to)reading (well duh....), TV (given up), video games (given up.....mostly damn it), crosstitch (freakin' awesome), glass painting, automotive restoration/repair (very useful), cooking (useful when you've got time), languages, scherenschnitte (fancy paper cu...
