Reply By: Bahu Virupaksha Posted: Sunday, October 10, 2004 Why get worked up over an innocent remark. Kerry is a war hero who faught in a war and did not hide behind the clout that a powerful congressman can provide a wayward son. The word kid is only used in a gesture of affection and there is nothing to get so hot under the collar.

A "war hero" you have got to be kidding me. His own Commander didn't want him to recieve the Silver Star, which shortly after he publicly threw away along with his other honors.
A "war hero" would NEVER, not ever, come home and disrespect his fellow service members still in country or those who had returened or God forbid, those who died by participating in Anti-war activites regardless of his personal beliefs and then try to use that as a major issue on his election platform. Indeed it was reported that he said he did not throw away his own, personal medals, just someone else or replicas of them. The point stands that he either literally or symbolicly threw away the honors bestowed upon him by a greatful nation, only to spit in the same nations face and those of the service members who validly recieved medals, and earned them repetedly for valor.

Im so frustrated at the comment I mentioned above I feel compelled to quicly expound on my statement. I would never, either privatly or especially publicaly, throw away the awards I recived wether it be actual medals, COAs, or even coins. I EARNED them and I would be doing a huge disservice to my friends who died in OIF. Not to mention all service members living or dead. And I think its crazy that someone who did that, so publicly would try to run for Commander-In-Chief. And to ad insult to injury to call service members "kids" gimme a break. I bet that when HE was at war he would hate such a patronizing comment. Because, gee wiz, "kids" are always willing to figt and die for thier country.....gimme a break. If your not in the service you might have a hard time understanding. Go through Basic Training, go to war, acomplish so much in so little time and sacrifice so much for others and for the nation and then have someone, espically a prospective president, call you a "kid" Boy oh boy that just endears me to Kerry and his ilk.

I wonder if anybody would be offended if George W. Bush were to refer to any prominent group of women in America as "girls" or to refer to like Rosa Parks or somebody as a "girl."

SPC: I somehow managed to miss this one when you wrote it. I agree with you completely . . . it's extremely condescending and degrading for someone, anyone, to call our soldiers "kids." I actually wrote something along these lines awhile back. I really have a problem with it. Excellent post.

I am guilty as hell of calling my own soldiers kids even thought I know most of them hate it. I have to constantly reign it in but it still slips out once in a while.

Ramblinwreck you are obviously a smacktard. Nuff said, have a trolling.

Off topic * Dysmas - not even trying to pull your chain here (for once) but I think your quotes really are not working for some reason.

Other than maybe the Girl Scouts, I'd be bothered. See the early replies. Someone brought up that Bush used the term kids when referring to Soldiers. That pisses me off, too!

I'm still older than he was when he "served." And I bet he wouldn't have liked being called a kid. (although I can think of a few other things to call what he did.)

Perfecto!
Better a chickenhawk that supports us, than a chickenshit that undermines us from behind and condescends to us by implying that we are too young and too stupid to know what we're doing.

An Insightful to balance the Evil troll!

Bush lied about going to war, then had no plan to win the peace, and lost our international credibility and you are complaining about John Kerry calling soldiers "kids"?
