Here I am at last in beautiful, scenic Norfolk at Little Creek Amphibious Base. Woot! I'm tired and sore but here. And I've use the Gideon approach to blogging to solve the no computer problem. Run for state representative, and blog at the library.

Life here is peaches and cream, but I got totally snafued by Dallas MEPS. My orders were all of about two lines long, and I got sent to Ft. Eustis, 40 miles away, and not even assigned to a unit. Heh. After valiant striving by the staff duty of the "triple deuce", located there, I got a room for the night....well three hours anyway, complete with belligerent drill sergeants, and a ride the next day.

Oddly enough, the drill sergeants here are warm and fuzzy. I don't trust it, but so far I'm cautiously enjoying it. Nothing can possibly be done to fix things 'til Tuesday because of the long weekend. The jerk at MEPS that does the orders took off early yesterday, so I couldn't even get mine amended. So for now I'm a man without a unit. Technically. And oh yes, no pay. Will I lose my house because of this? Enquiring minds want to know.........

Despite that, I've got a real permanant type barracks room, food, and now a library card. The gym is awesome, no, incredible. Better than air force even. This appears to be true for the rest of the facilities, albeit I'm on foot everywhere I go. The barracks are great, but very, very poorly maintained though. And somebody apparantly pisses in the elevator every morning. Sigh..........

Now I'm just left looking for something to do. I'm broke, and have nothing but one duffel bag of stuff until my wife mails some things to me. Like my cross-stitch. Who knows, maybe I'll practice...............
