Take the blue pill, Neo.

How 'bout that? I made it 'til 2:30 a.m. this time. Okay, who's out there? I'm going to try to get back to sleep, but really, I don't see it happening. But first, I'm going to try an old home remedy, or a combination thereof.

The main thing keeping me down is sore throat and a wicked cough. Every time I lay down, the mucus starts a flowin' down slow, so..........I've looked at maybe 30 or 40 home remedies or so. They largely seem to consist of gargling with a little honey, and something acidic like apple cider vinegar or peppers. Alternatively there's good ole saltwater.

I'm not staying up long enough to do a tea, (I hope) so gargling it is. A little straight white vinegar in water, and some salt for good measure. Yay. Then I'm gonna go try to sleep as straight up and down as I can get on the couch.

Remember, today's topic is, who's up, and what's your favorite home remedy. And is it just me, or are a lot of home remedies just cruel jokes made up by people to have fun with their sick friends? "Oh yeah, slapping yourself in the face with a sea bass is a great way to clear up a runny nose....." If this rambles a little, and isn't up to my usual level of "well written" schlock, then deal. It's frickin' 3:00 in the damned morning.

Okay, test results are in. First thought? Holy Crap! That tastes worse than gasoline. And yes. I would know.

Second thought, damn. That really worked. I'm going to keep it up. But in the meantime, I've got an appointment with the sofa.

I'm up. And I don't do home remedies, but a hefty dose of Nyquil should make you go sleepy-bye enough that you won't notice any discomfort. Haha.

Here!

Copious amounts of green tea.

I make a health drink consisting of apple juice, aloe vera juice, apple cider vinegar (the white stuff won't do it, sorry), and green tea. I drink it every day with a high dosage Fish Oil capsule. I swear it is saving my life.

I take it twice a day (along with the copious amounts of green tea) when I'm feeling a little under the weather. Prior to formulating the drink, "a little under the weather" would have been seriously ill for weeks and requiring all kinds of meds.

By the way, you want apple cider vinegar with "the veil of the mother." It looks like a bunch of gunk floating in the bottom, but it's an enzyme chain that increases the stuffs health properties. It's only present in raw, unfiltered ACV. The filtering, pasteurizing process kills most of the good stuff.

Okay, enough babbling...

I'm up too! (I should be, it is 12:30pm, but it is Saturday, so maybe I should be in bed, oh wait, now I just confused myself, I don't know what I should be doing now...)

Wish I could suggest some cure that would be really awesome and taste great, but all I can do is AMEN the Nyquil. Take some of that, get some sleep and deal with the problems in a few hours, perhaps they will be better by then! : )

Southern Comfort and 7 Up or Kahlua and Cream. Either will wind up knocking me back...

Well, I got a couple more hours anyway. And I tried my new remedy again this morning. Umm.....tastes like burning. Almost instant pain relief though. Then followed up with a zinc lozenge, sudafed, and ibuprofen chaser. Feeling no pain at the moment. I'm sure it's there, but I ain't feeling it.

Can't sleep now, the clowns will eat me.

(chili that makes smoke curl out of your ears is my favorite.)

I like to do that with Thai food or Chinese and lots of serrano peppers. Korean shin ramyon (really stinkin' hot ramen)'s not bad either.

what you want is a nice Hot Toddy.

Three shots of brandy, right. The alcohol on my breath will kill the germs. I don't normally drink, but the last time I tasted brandy, it burned almost as bad as the cold does. Of course, I would be numb after. And probably dancing on the tabletops for fun and profit.

apple cider vinegar (the white stuff won't do it, sorry)

I used red wine vinegar and it's doing all right, but then I'm only gargling. I don't swallow. heh heh.......I may try the green tea, just to try the green tea. I used to drink it all the time back in Korea, but almost never since I came back to the states.

Southern Comfort and 7 Up or Kahlua and Cream.

Merry {hic} Christmas to you too!!!

From what I found reading, the acidity in the vinegar acts as an antiseptic, in addition to clearing away a bunch of the mucus and crap on the outer surface of the upper respiratory stuff. It also slightly reduces the swelling. I'd also read just a couple of days ago in Runner's World that the zinc lozenges can take 3 to 5 days off of the length of the typical common cold.

At any rate, I'm feelin' okely dokely for now. Enough so to maybe go run in a little bit. Of course, three days ago I did too, and look what happened. I'm sure the run didn't contribute though. Sure. On second thought, maybe this looks like a good time to take a half milage rest week. A nice easy walk. That's the ticket. Five miles maybe, but a nice easy walk.

I have heard the same!  I hope it works!  It is nasty!
