Here, it's a seed kit for a cojones plant. You need to grow some.

I just found out today, I didn't get the teaching job I applied for (again). Not a big deal, there's still others I can interview for, except...........

If you weren't interested in hiring me, why did you lie and say you were at the interview? Don't have the balls to handle giving out rejection? Afraid I'm gonna grab a bread knife in the cafeteria and go on a killing spree? Sheesh.

I don't mind people saying they don't want to hire me. (okay, I mind a little, but still) I do however hate when they won't talk to you in person, or will lie to your face to get rid of you. Whatever happened to people taking responsibility and dishing it out? I'm not going to go psycho. I won't do anything worse than say thank you anyways for your time.

It's worse than this though. I've noticed that it's extremely hard to even get in to talk to a real live person when trying to get hired. Most of the time they refer you to a website, and don't call us, we'll call you.

Shoot, I've even seen chickenshit stuff lately like people showing up to work and the doors are locked because the place had gone out of business and was afraid that no one would show up if they were told. Failing that, they love to fire people by email, or let them go at the end of a friday afternoon out of fear they'll make a fuss.

When I first started working, there were plenty of people that enjoyed dishing it out to people. Now the dumb bastards have learned to feel shame, but they cope with it by avoiding responsiblity and confrontation.

For crying out loud, fire or don't hire someone if you don't want, but at least have the balls to tell them so.

I'm sorry to hear that, SPC. I'm with you on this, though.

When Adrian signed up for the Army I was working as a manager/photographer for a portrait studio. It was getting close to the holidays, so work was crazy, and I was so scared that Adrian would be sent off to Basic and then Iraq and I might never see him again.

I was freaked out and wanted more time.

I floated out a two week notice. The boss came in from Odessa THAT DAY and asked me what it would take to keep me. Did I want more money? I told him no, I wanted time.

So, he started coming in (from Odessa!) once a week to give me an extra day off. Cool. Then the big boss started asking me to work days off and holidays and such. I didn't like that much, so they hired me some one to come make things easier for me.

She was a total POS who usually didn't show up for work, and when she did, she was hung over and useless. The last straw was a Sunday (usually a 4 hour work day) where I had 20 sittings on the books, about 15 people coming in to purchase their photos, and 10 + walk-ins. In FOUR HOURS!! I worked as quickly and courteously as I could, but people were still pissed about the wait times. Of course she (POS girl) left a message on the answering machine, slurring, telling me that she was sick and couldn't come in.

It was the suckiest day imaginable (for me, anyways).

It was only a couple of weeks til Adrian shipped out. So I just fucking quit. I called in my numbers for the day and said, "Oh, by the way, I quit". It was a sucky thing for me to do, but I was sick of it, and I wasn't going to spend the last days before Adrian left playing photo monkey to a bunch of jerks.

I told you all that to tell you this...

I felt really guilty. Until I found out that about a month after I quit the store closed. It was inside a K-Mart that was struggling, so it wasn't a huge stretch, but still...they kept trying to keep me there...knowing full well how precious my time with my husband was...without bothering to tell me that the freaking store was about to close and I'd be out of a job anyway!

Grr.

I'm sorry you are having a hard time with interviews. That really is aweful when your interviewer seems interested and you think the interview went well and you end up getting a letter or just not even hearing back. I had not one, but three interviews last year at a company and all 3 seemed to go really well. I thought I made a great impression and, after all, they did call me back 2 more times! After all that, they didn't even call me; they wrote me a really informal letter saying the position had been filled, and it was only down to me and the other applicant. I would think with just one person to call, they could have foudn the time to tell me in person and thank me for taking time out of three days to scramble to the interviews. It is kindof a shock when that happens, and I don't think it's fair to get your hopes up if they know right off the bat they don't want to hire you.

Good luck with future interviews! Try not to get frustrated, although that seems impossible at times. Just think of it this way; any employer who doesn't have the integrity to be honest and upfront with you, you probably wouldn't want to work for anyway.

Sorry about that SPC.  But I can tell you from experience, it is SOP not to say.  You may have been number 2, and if #1 declined, they would have offered it to you, so they were just keeping their options open.

Yeah, it would be nice if they told you so's you didn't go getting your hopes up, huh?

Sorry about not getting the job.  It just wasn't meant to be, I guess.  Rest assured that the right job is out there, waiting for you to come along and apply for it.  If I knew where/what it was, I would tell you.

I'll have some good thoughts for you and your good Lady (who needs to blog more, btw) tonight.

I know when I was looking for a job, the people who let you know you didn't get the job were few and far between. I did always appreciate it though. It was kind a bummer when you think it went well.

A well worded thank you note could help you. Just thank them for their time and ask them to keep you in mind if the current applicant doesn't work out or if they have any future openings. A written note can really stand out and sometimes it gets the attention of someone who is doing the actual hiring and they will look out for you by letting you know of other openings.

Have you looked into the troops to teachers program?

Have you looked into the troops to teachers program?

You have to have 6+ years of active federal service to qualify for the official program, I believe.

Good luck, X-SPC-NBS. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Thanks to stop-loss, 6 years are in the bag. Finding someone to actually answer questions or be helpful? Much, much harder.

Here is the link I found for the troop to teachers program. Maybe it will help.
