My War....okay, my war, but not my book...well I did buy a copy, so it is, but still.........
Just picked up a copy of My War today. I got turned onto Colby Buzzell by psuedosoldier about idunno, six months ago? He's a skater out of the san fran area that joined up after 9/11, and ended up in "the shit" in Mosul, as part of a Stryker brigade. He posted amazing blogs, filling you in as everything happened.
I followed him for maybe a month, and then he started erasing everything. His cadre found out and starting pissing about and looking over his shoulder in the name of OPSEC, so he shut everything down rather than post it jacked up. Well, now he's out, and he published.
Simply put, he's an amazing writer. Not polished, but damned good. To the point, funny (extremely funny if you are or were army), and as incredibly detailedly real as a slap in the face. I remember reading his Men In Black post, right after he'd been in combat with a bunch of Iranian insurgents. Uber-intense.
I don't always agree with him, but I love to read him just the same. I especially love his observations on the military in general.....must...not.....quote.....book.....respect.......him......too......much......to......break.........copyright.........WHEW..............
Great read on the war from a soldier's perspective. I can't say much more than pick it up. My War, by Colby Buzzell. It was on sale at Hastings (at least where I'm at) for 30% off.
