Another enlightening experience with the local phone service. Here in the Killeen area the area code is 254. No problem, except everything from Waco, (1.5 hours to the northeast) to damned near Round Rock (1 hour southeast) is the same code. Some is long distance, some local.

So today I dial a number, not knowing it's local. "We're sorry, but you do not have to dial 254 when dialing this number. Please hang up the phone and try again." WTF? Obviously it's already being processed by the computer. If it's feeding me this message, they know it's a local call. Wouldn't it be simpler to set up the system to just route the call? Why punish us for being specific?

Hell, considering I have flat rate long distance, you could even route it that way for all I care. Blech.

I still remember when the entire state of Virginia was one Area Code! (703).

Sheesh. It's not been 1 area code for at least 15 years, 10 months now ('cause we were in the 804 area code when I moved here 4 Jan 1990).

And now ... it's what? 4 area codes?

It has not been one area code since 23 years, 3 months!  And it is 10 area codes (I know, I am from the government and I am here to help you remember!  heheheheheh)

As an FYI, I was born in Norfolk.  Then went to see the world!  Came back about 29 years ago.  Just not to there.
