and who wouldn't?

After my latest great failed job attempt, I've been looking at jobs again in Iraq. Of these the highest paying is being a merc....I mean security guard. Or wait, let's see, work outside of the government, carry weapons, involved in combat on a regular basis, kill people, that's not a mercenary, right?

Risky of course, but people are getting killed for much less over there now, and that 100, 120K would clean out my debt with a lot left over to give me some room when I came back. Very tempting to sign with one of the big corporations and head over for a year.

Besides........how cool would that look on your resume? "So what's this here Mr. NBS?" "Oh that? I spent the last year as a mercenary in a private corporation. I've got twenty confirmed enemy kills, but don't let that in any way influence what you're about to say about hiring me........." Who knows, it could turn into a promising career.

Let's see, be a Soldier and go to Iraq:

Do your job under stress and danger, separated from family and friends
Make somewhere between $30K and $70K a year
Stay until you are killed, injured, or allowed to leave (might be 8 months, might be a year, might be 2 years)

OR

Work for a big corporation and go to Iraq:

Do your job under stress and danger, separated from family and friends
Make $120K or more a year
Stay until you are killed, injured, or decide that you're bored or scared and don't want to be there anymore

Hey, if you insist on going to Iraq, big corporation is the way to go!

Then you can tell everyone that you are a paid killer. Assasin for hire. Don't ask me what I do, if I tell you then I have to kill you.

My hubby talked about getting out of the Navy and going to Iraq but to me the risk isn't worth the money. Of course, I'm just a big wussy girl who doesn't want her hubby in harms way anymore than he has to be. I don't even want him to get a motorcycle to drive to work.

I read your other post about becoming a teacher. Did you look into the troops to teachers program? I don't know where you're located and all of the details but it seems like something with potential. Of course, in some high schools you may be in more danger than in Iraq. Scary but kind of true.

this is a good thing, what kept me from going merc, was you lost your citizenship.. if I was the man/child that got out of the corps

I would do this in a heartbeat.

Kill for peace that's my motto.

Assasin for hire.

That's something different, but kind of a dream job of mine for a long time. Not like a hit man for the mafia or anything, but the kind of guy that knocks of warlords and drug kingpins, that kind of thing. Problem being of course, how do you get started? You can't exactly go the Texas Technical Institute of Assasination or anything. The only decent school of murder I've heard of was the fictional one in Terry Pratchett novels.

was you lost your citizenship

Why, is it illegal or something?

Kill for peace that's my motto.

Or for stress relief.....whichever.

I'm an ex-military man that could use some big cash as well. I've spent some time in both Iraq and Kuwat. Tell me where did you find this opportunity? I am very curious and and thinking about considering it myself.

Found one for coastal-security in the killeen daily herald, online here. Link fifth ad from the bottom. Hiring 70 to 120 grand, clearance required. I don't know all the others, I believe KBR and Haliburton are hiring.

Also, you definitely want to try dangerzonejobs.com here. Link

They seem to be one of the better sites for finding Iraq jobs, security and otherwise, and they don't mince words on what to expect. Some of their articles will try to warn you off by telling you the dangers, and the crappy living/work conditions over there. Although sounds like you've been there, done that on far worse pay.

I've also heard there are some on again, off again on the Army ACAP website, but I haven't tried it yet. And of course, there's more stuff to be found if you're willing to google it and sort through the crap. Happy hunting.

Of course, if you have a clearance, you could try one of:
DefenseCareers.com
IntelligenceCareers.com
DefenseEngineers.com

They seem to be affiliated, or at least cooperative. I'm looking at their newsletter/catalog right now.... Hey! They need a Tagalog linguist in Hawaii!
