I'd hammer all mornin' I'd hammer in the evenin' all over the land............apologies to pp&m.

I got it!!! Found a nice 55 pounder at a flea market for $65. I don't have a clue, but I was out there today heatin' and poundin' on steel. Just tried some basic techniques, but they worked pretty well. Bent the crap out of that piston rod again. Also practiced fullering and upsetting. (ummm, thinning and thickening the metal...sort of.)

I will learn. MUHAHAHAHAHAHAA!!!!!! You are all in danger of falling under my power now!!!!!!!!

Good price. Depending on how old it is and the style, that could have been a LOT more expensive. They are very expensive anymore, since they are "decorative" ( *gag* ).

I remember the anvil of my childhood and early adulthood on the farm. Spent many an hour sweating over that thing! It was my grandfathers, no telling how old it is!My sister has it now in her barn and I haven't thought about it in a long time-years! Thanks for the memories...

Actually, seemed to be new. Nice, new, hardened steel work face at the least. The guy at the shop said it was supposed to be forged, but he didn't know if that was true. It looks cast to me, but that's fine as long as the face holds up.

I also checked with a magnet to make sure it was all metal. With the "decorative" side of things, sometimes you run into paint, which is okay, or even Bondo or fiberglass filler, which is a damned dangerous thing to put on an anvil someone intends to use.

I did my worst, and only put a few microscopic dings in the face with that hard, high-carbon steel, which I know better than to beat on an anvil anyways unless it's heated. I also did a little fullering on the horn, and it was fine. I'll probably make a hardy for it soon to do most of the fullering on anyways.

It's a good tool, but I also got reminded in a hurry how much muscle I'd lost from pneumonia. Ouch. Happy, but sore and tired. No wonder nobody messed with blacksmiths. They must have had flippin' sweet deltoids.
