It probably wasn't important anyway.....
It followed me home.
Do I have to keep it?

So, a Baptist, a Catholic, a Mormon, a cop, an Aggie, George W., John Kerry, Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, a blonde, a brunette, and a redhead all walk into a bar. The bartender looks up and says "What is this, some kind of a joke?"
Ahhh....now you're warmed up for the pain......
As a few of you know, I'm training up for a marathon, so I went for a little eight mile run through deer invested suburbia this morning. (insomuch as Copperas Cove is a suberb of Ft. Hood

) Mile one, doing good. Mile two, down the hill of insanity.
Mile three, got up to pace, and so on. However, six miles into my run, I made a friend. I've made many fuzzy friends before while running, and even a few fuzzy enemies (just read one of my siege of the deer articles,) but this one was unique.
Most of the time, animals that join me on my run cop out in a block or two. There are occasional surprises, such as the quarter mile chihuahua on Colorado Dr., the half-mile sprinting Lhasa Apsa from just down the street, and even a wittle black kitten that chased me for at least a tenth of mile on Big Divide road.
But today I met the (for now) gold medalist. About mile six, I was going through a residential street, when I picked up a Retriever/Retriever mix puppy about six months old, with enormous eyes

and if you'll pardon the expression a hangdog expression. Tenth of a mile, still with me. Quarter mile, going strong, Half a mile, still there, all the way home over two miles, including the hill of insanity.
I took the edge of the street, but the dumb mutt lovingly stayed at my side.......right in the middle of the road. People swung around to the other side, but there was nowhere for me to go to get the damn dog off the street. Some people laughed, some honked, and one policeman in particular pulled by me real slow, while giving me a peculiar, knowing look.
On arriving at the house, he layed down in the driveway, and wouldn't move....until I went into the backyard, at which point he lept up and came running. I
can't
keep him, I'm already one cat over the lease, and getting that approved cost big time bucks. There's no tags, just a chain, and a little bit of chewed through rope. The cats all just sit and stare at him through the glass back door, mewing pitifully. I think the eldest one may be in love.
Sigh, I've got a day or two to find his owner or a home, then I'll have to take him to the pound, but this one may sting a little bit. Little doggy runner, I salute you.
P.S. I also found this online while looking for big eye pics, it looks a good bit like him.

Poor guy (the dog, not you). Hopefully you are able to find his owner. I always feel for dogs I see out on the street (usually more than I feel for people out on the street). But, from the picture you put at the end of the article, I'd say he has a good chance of being taken home from the pound/SPCA within the normal time allotment. People dig cute puppies!
I do wonder exactly what a retriever/retriever mix is, though?

Too bad I already have a useless dog... If the does indeed look like the second pic, it would've been an easy sell.

Actually, a spaniel mix named Casper. Found his mom today with a few calls, and now he's home. Still, after this experience, I might actually enjoy having a dog someday...
