Or how I learned to love the Mormons...............

Just when I was starting to get some free time to blog and whatnot again......

WHAM!!!!!!!!!

Two days notice, you're going to UTAH to train with a national guard unit at sunny Camp Williams. (just south of SLC) You'll be TDY en route to your next duty station, so you're not coming back. You're not going to be there long enough to take your wife.

Crap.

I was supposed to pack up last night, clear Ft. Huachuca (Az.) today, and leave tommorow morning early, possibly starting class on Saturday. Only, we still haven't received the orders or clearing papers..........

Clear post tommorow, leave Friday??? Meh.

Don't know when we're clearing,
don't know when we're leaving,
don't know where I'll be living or eating,
don't know if I'll be able to take my car (and therefore damn near anything outside of military uniforms....),
don't know if we're getting big fat per diem ($144 a day) or dinky little per diem ( a few bucks a day),
don't know what duty station I'll be going to from there
don't know what to have my wife do.

BLECH!!!

This and my follow up will be my fifth and sixth duty assignments this year. (Ft. Eustis, Ft. Jackson, Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base, Ft. Huachuca, Camp Williams, Ft. ???) Only one assignment with more than two days notice of clearing and leaving. Meh.

Oh yeah, and I'm going to miss the Pheonix P. F. Chang's Rock n' Roll Marathon.

I'd just better be able to get Dr. Pepper................

Yikes! I feel for you. Hope you'll be able to get clearer directions soon. And also hope you'll get the big fat per diem!

And you're going to miss greywar (who I've seen in the living flesh, but thankfully not much of it, he was clothed) and me (although I'm not supposed to hang out with... wait, what status are you now, anyway?)

Ah the memories of Camp Williams... When I was there it was out in the middle of nowhere; the closest building was the Utah State Prison; No Bus Service; No Rec Centers... but hey, it had a swimming pool, a gym and a rappelling tower.   What more could a young paratrooper ask for? ;~D

Now, well you saw, it's got a lot more on post, urban sprawl has put in right in the middle of town and hey, the good Ol' Utah Transit Authority finally acknowledges its existance.

Hope your stay in Utah is better than your route there. ;~D

as of now, not......

still an AIT student, but was always MOS-T, not IET, so was alright to hang out. The only ones proscribed against are the newbs. Unless of course you've become a 97E instructor.

Woot.

Now, well you saw, it's got a lot more on post

S' not bad, just really really tiny, especially after Ft. Hood. Went over there today, signing in in (in in in in) the morning.

P.S. Sweet drive.
Especially around Mt. Carmel on 89. Reminded me of a Steinbeck title, The Pastures of Heaven. I couldn't afford to live there, but I think it's where I want to die someday.

Enjoy your stay in Utah . . . there are a lot of beautiful things in this state. I've lived here for years, and I pretty much like it.

I think you'll grow to love it. Even the Mormons.
