Where have I been lately? Working two jobs and getting ready for my band auditions. If all goes well (or even not), I'll probably be back in the army in about three weeks.

I've just about got music together, working on scales, arpeggios, picked out a couple of jazz tunes, an old rock tune from godspell, and a schmoozy chopin waltz, but I'm still completely mystified by what I'm going to play for a latin piece, and a ballad? What kind of freakin' ballad? Every Rose Has It's Thorn is a rock ballad, but somehow I don't think that's what they want. We shall see. Preparations would be going great, but I broke a key clean off of my piano tonight. E above middle C. Crap.

The other side of getting ready, is dropping the pounds to make sure I meet weight reqs again. Since I don't have a lot of time, drastic measures are required. First, no Dr. Peppers. None. Ouch. Skipping the bad carbs and watching calories. Plus.....and this is the good part, running twice a day. If I don't blow out my shins, I should be able to drop about eight or ten pounds this month, which will get me clear and then some. Woot. I've dropped a couple of pounds so far this week. Maybe I'll shave my head again to get another one. Heh......And that's all the update there is tonight, thank you, film at eleven.

Ballad? How about "Daniel" by Elton John. Or "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"?

Yikes. Sublimating your anger? Rage? Frustration?

SFC Spadde will be rather bewildered if I remember to mention this to him... not to mention some of your fellow KPs who are still around. (SPC Cuddles will be aghast.)

I like that one, but I think I'm going with the whole cheesy love ballad thing and doing "If ever I would leave you" from Camelot. I'm still stuck on the latin number though. The local music store had bupkis.

wow

I don't play, but I hear it's a great game.

Sarge???

wait and see.....

That's okay, I'm a little befuddled too.......but at least I won't end up back in as a KP.

Great, I've got all my pieces now.

1. Bless the Lord My Soul from Godspell for Rock/Pop (although I really wanted to do Time from the dark side of the moon album)
2. If Ever I Would Leave You from Camelot for a ballad.
3. Don't Get Around Much Anymore (or maybe C jam blues, can't decide) by Duke Ellington for the swing.
4. a nice little waltz in A minor by Chopin for the Classical, I don't remember the opus number
5. A piece I got off the web called Simply Latin for the Latin number. Only when I get done with it, it's not so simple.

I'm fairly confident I can get everything except maybe the scales together in about a week, so I'm thinking about asking if the recruiter can come down for the audition next Friday.

But I'm not nervous. No, really. No butterflies at all. That's not nervous projectile vomiting, sure. It's just .......erm, stomach flu, yeah. It's not like this audition is going to affect my life for maybe the next fifteen years and I'm rushing it 'cause I'm broke and have to hurry. Right.
