Kenya took their first gold in the Olympic marathon ever!!!! Samuel Wanjiru ran a 2:06:32 in 85 degree heat! I'm excited and using way too many exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was beautiful, just one of those moments you think they'll never pull it off, they're going to strive mightily and doom themselves to acrimonious failure. That's right, acrimonious. BUT THOSE MORONS PULLED IT OFF!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently nobody told them that there was no frickin' way to beat the olympic record by three minutes in the worst of conditions. A gang of fifteen or so just started gung ho at the beginning doing 4:50 miles. Oh you fast bastards. My best mile time ever was a minute slower than that. It trimmed down to a pack of five by up til mile 18 or 19, but four of them still finished massively ahead of the crowd.  It wasn't even close with Wanjiru.

The only real changeup was one of the Ethiopians blew his wad in the rush, and was at a walking pace at the end, giving bronze to one of his teammates. The Americans? Better than my best anyday, but ninth place for the fastest at about three minutes behind Wanjiru. (That little guy? I wouldn't worry about that little guy....) Sucks not to even place, but hell, we always get an assload of medals, and what a race!!!

I laughed, I cried (I really did to. That was the race of a lifetime), it moved me,

You've been infected with the spirit of the games.  I hear it's more contagious than bird flu.

I really have enjoyed these Olympics.   Kudos to all of the athletes who have shown great sportsmanship and endurance during these games, whether they won or not.
